CONTAINER CRISIS | Laid-up boxship fleet shrinks

Laid-up capacity has fallen to 8.9% of the global fleet having been stuck above one tenth for much of last year.

Alphaliner says continued slow steaming and new services have led to just 1.18m teu remaining in lay-up, down from 1.22m teu two weeks ago.

The Idle boxship tally reached a record high of 11.5% at the start of this year but has been steadily reducing more recently.

Alphaliner believes the decline will continue in April as more vessels are placed into new services between Asia and Europe.
