MARITIME | Boxship loses 26 containers overboard

The 6,478-teu boxship Maersk Sembawang had 26 containers lost overboard and 47 damaged after it was hit by a storm in the Bay of Biscay during the night between Monday and Tuesday.

The Singapore-registered Maersk Line ship was en route from Sri Lanka to Zeebrugge when the accident occurred.

Fearing that the ship would lose even more containers that could pose a danger to the dense traffic in the English Channel, the French authorities ordered the Maersk Sembawang to proceed to the port of Le Havre so as to unload and rearrange the damaged containers.
